If they were renting property perhaps they moved when they had children to bigger accommodation.Or if they were staying with relatives at time of marriage they may move down the street at a later date. I have one family in Brighton who all give different numbers in same street on their marriage and birth certificates. Turns out it was a sort of Set of rooms in a court behind an Inn and they seem to swap round as the children married and got children of their own. I doubt they owned the property just all paid the inn keeper rent. One child started off as barman then went on to run his own pub. Alternatively it could be the post office renumbered the street as more houses built depending on the era... Kim

Michelle Could this be Thomas Heard's family in 1881, mistranscribed? If his mother was a widow that might account for some confusion over his father's name: Record 1881 British Census Search results | Download Previous Household Next Household -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability Mary HERD Head W 40 Peckham, Surrey, England Hawker Thos. I'd try to find them both (preferably with their fathers -! -) on the 1881 census www.familysearch.org You may find you have confused two sets of people - they may well have relatives who share Christian names living near. Also, I've found quite a few relatives who seem to move up and down streets. nell

In a dilema! Would appreciate a third parties view: I have my great grandparents on 1901 census. Louisa elizabeth lockyer and thomas heard. Louisa b 1863 (found birth and have cert) father entered as charles lockyer occupation newsagent/carman. Thomas Heard b 1862 (not found birth cert yet). Found a marriage between a Thomas Heard and Louisa elizabeth lockyer in 1885 in the right area, ages work out right. However, when cert arrived it says ~ George~ Thomas Heard which confuses me. Also, Louisa's father is entered as ~John~ Charles Lockyer, occupation newsagent. Is this enough to rule them out or count them in? When 'thomas' and louisa had children, which I know are correct, thomas has entered ~Joseph~ as his middle name! From 1891 census they are entered as living in eagle street holboln, and this is also mentioned on the marriage certificate but I have three different numbers of eagle street . How many times can people move, these were hard times!!!!! Am so unsure whether to accept they are mine or not - could this be another 'Heard' family???? How many heards could have married lockyers in that area - arrgh pulling out my hair!
