does this census show whether the person was a worker or employer? |

The seventh column is headed: "Rank, Profession or Occupation". I'm not sure if, like in later censuses, it'll say employer or worker. |

i was just wondering because if my ancestor was an employer - he would be found in the trade directories wouldn't he |

Only in the 1891 census onwards does it specifically state on the census whether an individual is employer, employee or self employed. On earlier ones you often have to guess, unless it actually says employing x men and y boys. B |
