If you have an idea when Nellie or Martha were born I can look for them too. Once you have their parents' names, you can find them on the 1901 census www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/index.html nell

First you need to find his birth cert and/or the sisters. This will have their parents names (including their mother's maiden name on). You can then find their marriage cert. As they were brought up in an orphanage, you can look for the parents' deaths as well. Births, marriages and deaths are searchable free at http://freebmd*.rootsweb*.com/cgi/search*.pl remove * to use. This doesn't have much coverage after 1910ish, so you may have to look at the GRO indexes on microfiche in a records office or library. I will see if I can find the births now. nell

I am trying to find out any information on my Husbands Grandfather, We know very little only that he was brought up in Orphanages, and had two sisters Martha and Nellie Houghton. We do not know how to go about tracing his parents or where they were born (He was born in 1901 and was known as William Henry Houghton) Thanks Mrs Denise Houghton
