What was Minnie short for??

I have a census entry which says Minnie Langley - was this a name given in 1863 or would it have been short for something else?? Kx

I had a great-aunt Minnie - her proper name was Marion. Hope this helps, Anne

Can be short for Mary or can also be a name in its own right

Minnie's real name may be the mums name too and instead of her being known as Ellen junior they nicknamed her minnie

I have a Sarah Anne who appears in a later Census as Minnie. Her first daughter appears as Minnie F Peter

Minnie Ann Elizabeth, b.1901 on our tree was the daughter of Minnie Eliza, b. 1876 both registered as their correct full name.
