Thank folks... I'll point her in the direction of this thread. Of cousre the first thing I've told her is to actually ASK her father what he can tell her the next time she sees him (which isn't that often)!!

Searching in Italy is very difficult as they didn't hold any census' like we did. I have researched quite a bit of my husband's ancestry but it was all done by talking to family and getting hold of the birth/marriage/death 'cards' that the families had produced. These nearly always carry pictures of the people concerned but you do need to find someone who has kept them. Unfortunately I didn't find any of the Italian socities etc any use at all. Good luck,Tricia

There is also and Anglo-Italian family history society, Paul. Haven't got the address to hand, but should find it on a Google search. They are quite helpful, and have lists of Italian surnames that members are interested in. Merry Xmas!! Steph xx

I haven't tried any of these, but I noticed this link "on my travels" http://www.genealogylinks.net/ click on "Continental Europe" and then "Italy" to come here: http://www.genealogylinks.net/europe/italy/index.html hopefully, one or two of these links will prove useful !

Anyone have any information on how to do this ? My niece has an Italian father, and would like to start researching their tree, but doesn't know where to start...
