Any ideas what, (if anything!), Polly could be short for? Has anyone come across this name being a 'nickname' used for a specific christian name??

Yes, there was a very long thread on this a couple of weeks ago. It is usually a nickname for Mary Ann.

Mary is the usual name this is abbrievated for, but of course it could just be a nickname and I do know of several Pollys who are just Polly in their own right. Pollyanna is another idea. nell
