I recently applied for my fathers Bith Cert to Gen Reg Off giving all the details I had.I sent a copy of the 1901 census with him and all his family listed on it .They charged the search fee and replied No record of this person!!!! Where do you go from there.Any suggestions please Arthur.

Did you give them the exact birth details? If you were just taking his age from the census, they may only have looked at that year (e.g if census said he was 20, they search 1880). The problem is that the census info is not accurate and his birth could have been a number of years either side. Just a thought, Sam

Arthur Birth certs aren't obtainable from Kew. You need to get them from the GRO (General Register Office). See this site for details: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ If you post the details, someone here can look for the reference for you so you can order the cert. nell

He's not on Ancestry civil reg (same info as FreeBMD) under either Williams or Chase for 1890. If you are sure he was born Aston, Birmingham, you can apply to the local registrar without the GRO index details. The cert will still cost £7. Alternatively, you can ask GRO to search within 3 years of the date for you, but I think they charge £11. nell
