Please help me ! I have found a reference to some of my ancestors on the LDS site. Its referred to as the "Sealings of the Dead". I'm not sure what this means but I'm assuming that it means that another descendant has joined the LDS Church and has researched the family already. There is a microfiche reference number. Does this mean that I can request the microfiche ? If so how much does it cost and how do I go about ordering it ? More importantly, what sort of information can I expect to find on "Sealings of the dead" ? Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated Thanks Jenny

Hi, I think you need a Mormon to answer these questions comprehensively. As far as I understand it, sealing of the dead involves someone who is currently (or was) a Mormon, member of the LDS church and who has submitted his ancestors names to be baptized posthumously. It may be worth you ringing the local LDS church for more accurate info about it or contacting them via the site. Basically, it sounds like some one related to you has researched his/her ancestors and then submitted their names to the church. You should be able to look at the details if you contact your local Family centre of the LDS. Remember that the info may not be completely accurate though.

Hi Jennifer This is what I found in the glossary on family seach. You can order the microfilms from your nearest family search branch. It does not cost very much and I think you can go back and look at them for about a month. Shirley Sealing, Latter-day Saint A term referring to priesthood ordinances performed in temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that make it possible for family relationships to continue after death.

Hi, Some films can only be ordered by church members and I think sealings are in that category. Gwynne

The Sealing of the Dead is a Ritual carried out by the Latter-Day Saints on behalf of their Forefathers. The details are of no Genealogical significance, but the desire to have this Ritual performed has perhaps done more to fuel the current interest in Genealogy than anything else. Jim
