Odd situation from America

Hi Tammy. Your situation sounds a little like mine. I live in the States, but my family is from Canada and my ancestors were from England and Ireland. All of my grandparents died before I was 5 years old. Here are some hints to remember: Write down ALL sources for the information you find, as you will be able to verify information this way. Listen to facts, but know that things can get muddled along the way, so don't believe everything you hear. If you have been told that your great-grandfather was John Jones and he was born in May 1875, he really could have been Joseph John Jones and was baptised in May 1875. So, be prepared to do investigative work. Do you know where your great-grandfather was born or where your family came from? I obtained information from certificates. So for my Canadian ancestors, I obtained my grandmother's death certificate, which showed her parent's names. I found their marriage certificate, which should their parents' names and ages. Certificates are very helpful, but can be expensive. A website you can try is www(.)familysearch(.)org -- remove ( ) first -- but some entries contain errors, so don't believe everything you read. This site is helpful if you have some idea of names, dates and places. There are many helpful people on here. They will probably have better ideas than I have, as I started researching 25 years ago, long before the internet came along, and my ways of searching are antiquated. All the best with your searching. PS If you post some facts, someone may be able to point you in the right direction. :~)

I am stuck! My family moved to America in the 70's, and my tree only goes back as far as my great-grandfather. My mother doesn't remember much and my grandmother died when I was 11. I am new to genealogy but would like to learn. Can anyone give me suggestions how to go about looking up my great-grandparents' relatives?
