Motor Machine Gun Corps

The Machine Gun Corp Was a unit in its own right each unit was attached to a division from which thay took there number IE 7 MGC was attached to 7th devision. The Silver war badge ment that he was wounded or to ill to fight and was discharged medically unfit for duty.dose he have one?

Hello Louise. His medals will tell you where he was. Almost certainly in France and Flanders I would say. The MGC (note not Motor) was formed especially because of the tactics used in trench warfare. Regards Keith

Hi Louise Your only real way of finding out where he was and what happened is to get his service record. It may be one of the records that servived. You have his name, rank, number and regiment if its there it should be easy to find. Good luck. Malcolm

i have pictures of him - and the badge indicates he was a part of the MGC, i ordered his medal index card - but only have MGC, pte, & regiment no (no date or place of theatre of war) all's i know is he was likley to have signed up in Liverpool & was possibly injured by 1916/1917

Hi Louise You will need to find his service record if that still exists. They are held at the GRO for discharges up to 1920. Have you looked for his medal record? What info have you got that makes you look at the Motor machine gun corps. what other info have you got no matter how small. Malcolm

i've looked but i'm not sure with divison/regiment he belonged to - any other of way of finding out?
