Hi Gwynneth I heard that Pallots is quite reliable, but they said it is mostly complete for the City Of London square mile, so I will have to search through Holborn parish records. Good idea about Bishops Transcripts, as that could be a bit of a shortcut. Thanks for your help. It gives me something to do next time I am in London. Youre right, I doubt he'd change from coachman to cooper then back again.

Hi Benjamin, There are a lot of marriages not recorded in Boyds, Pallot's or the IGI. Some marriages only appear in parish records or Bishop's transcipts. Have you looked in the parish records where you found the baptisms for a marriage? If they aren't there maybe try the next parish. I've had to search in ever widening circles for some of the marriages on my tree. Gwynne

Hi Heather and Gwyneth Well, I have got the 1816 twins births and their father George was a cooper, whereas my George was a coachman in 1813, 1819 and 1828, and the 1817 child, George was described as a servant, as the church wasnt that picky about the accuracy of occupations, meaning George was a coachman for a rich family. Sarah's maiden surname isnt mentioned. But I cannot find a suitable marriage for my George and Sarah around 1810ish on Boyds, Pallots or the IGI, just one in 1831 in Hackney, but that would be too late though. Ben

Hi Benjamin, A cooper had to serve an apprenticeship and would probably earn more than a coachman so I think it may two different people. Have you found the baptisms of all the various children in parish records? Sometimes mother's maiden name is mention and father's occupation. Gwynne

Hi Ben I've found some that have odd combinations of occupations, one was a baker and coal dealer and carrier. Luckily he was the only person of that name in the area. Census info was coal dealer and carrier but his children's marriage certs said baker. Sorry I can't help more. Heather

I have found a possible marriage of my 4xgreat grandfather George Coombs in 1804 to a Sarah Balckburn, and they had two children born in 1806 and 1807, then two more in 1816 who were twins, and it says on their baptism record that George was a cooper, and they were all born in East London areaswhereas my George, who married a Sarah was a coachman and he had children in 1813, 1817, 1819 and 1828 in the West London area. In 1813 he was a coachman, and still one in 1819, but could he of changed jobs to a cooper then back to a coachman again? Plus, would they of moved back and forth from East to West London, any ideas. Thanks Ben
