I think long standing employees or servants would be given this special treatment. In our grave yard there is an area set aside which the Victorian squire had all his most faithful servants buried in with headstones.

Just discovered that my grandfathers mysterious uncle Harry is buried in the cemetary of Winterton Hospital where he worked, there appears to be a headstone too. Was this common practice? George
