I have just recieved two death certifiacates and the person who has signed the register is not the wife could it have been a nurse that was thier at time of death or a neighbour what are you thoughts the date is 1872 and this person made there mark rather than signing .

thanks christine i did think that but how would i go about finding that out I have been unable to trace any siblings for this particular person and his wifes name was Mary so if it is a rellie it's more likely to be of his side. The wife was still living at the time so I cant't understand why she didn't register the death.

as far as i can tell thier was only one son. all it says is The mark of Mary Humphrey presant at death steeple Bumpstead. I must say I was quite dissapointed, on Scottish death certs it gives a lot more info wifes name and occupation also mother and fathers name, there is not a lot of info at all on English ones.
