Parish records/cemetery records may show age on burial register even though GRO index does not show the age.

I've looked on some of the free BMD sites. Some death entries don't have age, so it is hard to narrow it down to right John! Is there anyway of finding age at death without ordering certificate? I'm new to this!

His mother who died is my side of the family, it seems they didn't care for him. I have found on this site the grand daughter of his half brother (his dad's son from previous marriage), she and her mum knew nothing about him and think he wasn't brought up with his half brothers! I will check on more distant relations on my side, though there aren't many. Thanks again, Anne

Can you get info from his parents marriage cert? Did he end up with his grandparents or aunts/uncles? Maybe you'll have to go up the tree a bit to get back down! Christine

Thanks for these tips, it sounds time consuming! Will I be able to look even when I have no idea where in the country he might have died (if he has) ?

Some of the free Local BMD sites have quite recent records available to search. Have a look on ukbmd.org.uk Christine

Any ideas how to track down a person whose mother died at his birth and seems not to have been brought up with his half brothers from his father's previous marriage? I know birth date, birth place and he seems to have been around aged 10 as his Aunt left him some money. The name was John Rowlands so quite a lot about! If he was adopted officially or unofficially, is there any chance of finding out what happened to him? Thanks Anne
