I couldn't find my Grandfathers marriage but found his brides name without a spouse! I rang GRO and asked them to send it if the husbands name was what I thought it should be. It arrived all correct. I suppose I was lucky as I knew his brides name, but they were helpful. Jean

I think you probably have the same prob I have had several times now. I cant remember, but someone on here did say at some point the marriage index had 6 people on this was reduced to 4 but quite often some poor devil ended up on another page! I have had several like that. If you look up the bride you will find she has the same reference even if not shown on same page in BMD.

Obvious comment maybe... but if you've found this via FreeBMD, then all you do once you've found your bride (or groom) is to click on the Volume/Page number, which will then show you a list of other individuals on that page. Sometimes it's obvious who the spouse is... sometimes not. Takes a bit more research sometimes and/or a copy of the certificate. Good luck. Paul

In the actual register the bride and groom must be in the same volume and on the same page, as the register contains information in the same format as a certificate. The names are then indexed at the GRO alphabetically, so if you know the brides surname you could look her up on 1837online where she should appear with same reference numbers that you found for the groom. If you found the groom on Freembmd then the reason you only found one name will be because the others on that page have not yet been transcribed. If you are not sure this is the correct marriage you could order the certificate but give the bride's name as a checking point, then you would only pay £3 if it is not the correct entry.

Are you referring to 1837Online? The answer would be yes, the two parties are not shown on the same page so your grandmother would be under her alphabetical listing for her surname. Roy

I wonder if anyone can help, I have located my great grandfather's marriage I believe but the page only shows him! I have the district and page no and vol no. Does this mean his bride is in the next page or volume, and is there a way to view specific pages? Its so frustrating to have almost found the information ut not quite! Jackie
