Or indeed any one researching London? I need to search Catholic baptisms & don't know where to start. I am told that as a rule, records are kept at the church its self, & not at a record centre. However, I don't know where to start looking for records, as I don't know which are the Catholic churches (Would it ALWAYS say RC after the church name?) I have seen cd-roms available for churches in the areas I am particulary interested in, but being unsure of the denomination, I am reluctant to buy them. I also believe that a number of old churches were demolished & rebuilt else-where in Victorian times. The areas I'm especially after are Shadwell, (1830s), St. George in the East, (1860s) & Mile End/Bethnall Green/Stepney areas (1885-1901). Any tips gratefully received! LIZ |
