Hello I spent a day there a few months back, mainly researching my grandfather and his elder brother's WW1 records. I was fortunate to find them - you need to be aware that something like 60% of those records were lost to a WW2 bomb explosion, so you may not find what you're after. Do have a second string to your bow - something else you could do if that falls flat. I have to go back sometime because my g-grandfather worked for GWR, and their archives are there, too. enjoy yourself - the staff are very helpful - and patient! Christine

Hope you enjoy your visit. I've never been myself, so can't offer any help, but I do agree with you about the website. I have looked at it several times when I've seen different things mentioned on these boards, but to be honest, I always come straight off the site without really looking at anything as I find it very confusing and still don't really know if you can actually see any information on the site, or if it is just a list of what you can see on a visit to the Archives. Since no one in my life, except my Mum, bless her, can understand my enthusiasm for researching my family tree, I need some virtual encouragement from this community! Tomorrow I am going up to the National Archives in Kew to try and find out more about my great grandfather from his army service records. It is the first time I have been there, and if their website is anything to go by, I think it's going to be confusing! (Am I the only person who has trouble with the website?) Anyway, wish me luck, and let me have any tips you may have. Thanks, Sharon
