Irene Are you saying that I should do a search for my father on FamilySearch? I do know my grandmother's maiden name - Moss. ~Sharon J

That's excellent! Thank you so much :-) At least now that I know which districts they were born in, I can order their birth certs, right? They should give me more clues as to their parents, shouldn't they? I'm a complete newbie at this but am determined to get back a few generations at least. ~Sharon

Sharon If you know your grandmother maiden name then is should be easy to find. In the births it should have the mothers maiden name along side. One way of being 99.9% not many have the same two name in a family but it does happen. Then when you are looking for a marriage it should also have the partners surname alongside as well. Look under different spellings of the surname, it could also have been late reaching reistration but the date will still be right on the certificate. For Births and marriages you will get the partners or mothers maiden name only after mid 1911. Good Luck Irene

I just tried familysearch.org and found nothing useful :( I don't know their parents' names. I only know their names because I found their grave (which also gave me HIS dob and HER age at death). I know their childrens' names because one of them is my father but as he's unhelpful when it comes to giving me any information, I'm really fumbling in the dark. I know my father was born in 1918 and that he is (or so he says) the oldest child, that's why I'm assuming that their marriage was just before that time, probably between 1915 - 1917. Thanks for trying to help, though :-) Surely there must be some record of them? Sharon J

Try the LDS at www.familysearch.org (its free) make sure to chose the international geanealogical Index. You can also find birth dates if you know their parent name by just entering mother and father names on the search page (will need to add area as well) do not put in the person you are searching for and this will show all children to that couple. Might give you the dates of birth anyway then you know roughly when to look for their wedding. Hope this Helps Jamie

As I said, 1897 is probably wrong. Should have said "Definitely" wrong ;) I honestly don't know when they married but as Edward was born in 1918, presumably a few years prior to this (Edward was the oldest - or at least, Edward says he is although I can never be sure of anything in this family as most of what I've been told hasn't been correct). I found a William Clancey who was married in 1897 who was possibly the father of Henry Clancey but without finding a birth for Henry (which I haven't been able to do), I wouldn't know that, either. It seems the Clancey's were a very secretive clan (and still are, as my father is loath to give me any information and nobody else seems to know much if anything). Sharon J

Sharon If they were born in 1891 and 1896, they can't possibly have got married in 1890 - and they'd only be married in 1897 if they were royalty being married by proxy to establish a treaty or something! Please can you double check the way you're listing names and dates so that people like me, who're feeling fuzzy at the end of the day, can make sense of them! I like other people's puzzles - and it's a way of diverting my attention from spending money on my own trees!! Thanks Christine

Hi Thanks for the offer. Their names are Henry George Clancey b. 6.7.1891 and Emily Alice Evelyn Moss b. ca. 1896. I believe that 1897 is probably wrong as I know they had a son, Edward Frederick, in 1918. I don't know how to find county BMD sites :-( --- These people are from East London (they certainly lived there during their marriage and I believe they were both born there although that isn't certain). I don't know which church they were married in. Regards Sharon J

You could try going to the County BMD website - Lancashire & Cheshire are quite good. Do you know where they were married?

I'm looking to find the marriage record of a couple who I believe were married around 1890 or just before. I've tried FreeBMD which gave me information that a male with that name was married in Dec 1897 but nothing about who he married so I still don't know it's the right person. RootsWeb turned up nothing. Is there anywhere else on the net I can go to find information about who he married? Thanks Sharon J
