well on the census there's a mary elizbeth jr & jane and i know that they had a child called Ginnie

Peter - 99.9% certain? - I for one would take that! Once you get pre-1837 it is often impossible to be 100% certain, especially with common surnames. There are always risks of linking to the wrong ancestors, all we can strive to do is to minimise the chances. At the end of the day it often comes down to personal, subjective judgement. Dave

I have a couple of Pollys in my tree - real name of Mary. I'd get the cert to be sure though.

I cant say if you have the right one, but in my family there have been a couple of Mary Ann Elizabeth's who were nicknamed Polly, I only found this out from old memorial cards. Grace

if my g grandad's mum & dad was John & polly and i can find only one entry of a marraige on lancashire bmd of a John Bache & Mary E daniels is it likely that on the 1901 census that Mary Elizabeth Bache (the only one on there) is her? (john was said to be a sailor)
