When searching for children of this marriage, search for them being born into the husbands surname and use the lady's maiden name not previous married name.

It's unlikely that he changed his name. His wife had been married before if there were two names for her on the certificate, so she obviously didn't object to changing her surname. They may have moved away from the area, or there may be transcription errors, or one partner may have died shortly after the ceremony; any of these could explain why you can't trace them or any children.

I have just found a member of my family that I didn't know existed. I found his marriage by mistake but now I do not know which name he used after his wedding. On the marriage certificate there is his surname and his wife has two names listed. The marriage took place in the 1940's and I was wondering if men took the wifes names back then? I know that it is more common place now, but would it have happened then? I can find no mention of children under his surname and I am not sure how to find out which name the family took after the wedding. Any advice???????? Janine
