I have one family whose five children are all born in different places, their father was a stud groom and the clue to the reason for the movement came from the fact that all the places either had racecourses or were near one. As someone else suggested, look at the father's occupation see if it offers you a clue. Regards, Yvonne.

Before I started family history I was under the impression that people stayed in one place all their life and that moving around is modern. But on the contrary they moved a lot - admittedly often locally (lots of mine are ag labs and miners) - because that was what they had to do get a job - no unemployment benefits in those days. Don't forget too that it was easy to move around in the late 19th century - the train services were a lot better than today - you could get to really small places by train.

I have a family like that, they travelled with a circus - but I knew that before I started looking so I was expecting to be looking everywhere. Upside of all that, being in Aust it has been a good geography lesson, enjoy their journey regards Laurie

Hi Kelly What was Joseph's occupation? I have miners from the Black Country area who seemed to move around the coalfields. Heather
