One of our problems in NZ\OZ is we can find out lots of stuff about our ancestors after they land here.We have immigrant ship name and passenger list.Date of sailing and arrival, but then nothing at the other side!!Surely our ancestors would have to register themselves with lots of personal details with the shipping line or government before embarking. Now for it--who knows where all this info' is?Who do we approach? eg.Woodlark left England[London] Dec.12th 1873-arrive Wellington Mar.24th 1874.Helmer William Seeling aged 34 on board.Cant find him on 1871 census! where is[was] he?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bernard Seeling.

Seeling appears to be German. You may have to look for him there as hes not on the census

You might find his birth on freebmd or 1837 online...you know the year roughly so wouldn't be too long a search. Good hunting. If you don't find him...then perhaps he came from elsewhere in Europe and that would be hard! Joan

Are we talking Ariving in Oz as a free man or guest of HMS Goverment. as the NA should hold records for the latter
