Many thanks, that is very kind of you. Dad is 90 now and lives entirely alone doing all his own cooking, cleaning and shopping. Is 120 miles away from me but refuses to move to me or sister. Stubborn old ................. But I guess thats the kind of men they had to be.

Yes any direct reele can (you will need to prove it) Go to eather of the addresses above to find out more. If you can get his servis Number and/or squadron this will help in the search. If he was awarded any medals (not campain) then his name will be in the London gazette. this will give you his servis number. Was he RAF or RAFVR there names were put in on being acttivated. I found 10 items on 3 of my relles there

Peter, can you actually get your Dad's records from WW2? My Dad was a gunner in Bomber Command and earlier in the first RAF Regiment.

Try RAF museum at Hendon, sure to have a website. They hold records for British and Commonwealth airmen, and are usually very helpful. Good Luck

Hi there I have just discovered that both my grandfathers were in the RAF but apart from the fact that I knew one was in Australia and the other in Germany, I have nothing else to go on. Can anyone advise me where to go from here - ie. how to find out squadrons etc. either online, postal or records office. Your advise in this matter would be very much appreciated as I am totally ignorant in this area!! Best wishes Helen
