Have you discovered the "getting started" and such links here on GR? They're on your Home page but you need to scroll down to find them. Theres quite a lot of useful stuff there. Another useful thing is the thread-search, which means you can see if any (or how many) others have had similar problems and how they've got round them. There's one called "best websites" or something and has lots of useful stuff. And don't forget Google (and such)! Christine

freebmd*rootsweb*com replace * with . is a good place to start, you can type in the persons name and the rough date. It isn't totally complete but I have found loads of relatives that way. You can search for marriage, births, deaths etc good luck!

Have you tried FreeBMD site. It isnt complete but you may be lucky that your ancestors have been transcribed. Otherwise if you have a good idea of the year you can use 1837online pay to view.

Hi. Just started doing this so still not really sure how to do things. Does anyone have any tips for getting the dates of when people died, other than just guess work. Thanks Sarah
