I have lots of relles in the clarckenwell area and have found about 90% of the road names still exsist. So if you multimap them you should get a result. (If you get lots of hits look below the first map for a list of towns this dose not always show on screen you have to scroll)

Try looking the places up in GENUKI which is probably best because it deals with historic counties. Every few years the government mess about with county boundaries and move places from one county to another (usually against the wishes of the local people!) or make up new "counties" which they then abandon some years later. So for family history purposes the historic counties are usually used but even then there can still be confusion. For the current county check here http://www.gazetteer.*co.uk/ Martin

Leeanne You can also use www*streetmap*co*uk (replace * with .) to locate places, and if you google a placename and "Map" it should help. All the places you mention are now in Greater London, but originally would have been listed under counties - north of the river Thames is Middlesex & to the east Essex, whilst south of the river is Surrey and Kent. nell

If you have road names, then go to multimap(.)com to search for them. Clerkenwell and Holborn are in the City, St Pancras and Islington are just North, but all are within London. In the 1800s, they might all have come under Middlesex, but definitely not Kent, which is to the South East of London.

Hi Leeanne.Clerkenwell,Islington,Holbon and St Pancras are all west London just outside the City of London boundry.Kent is to the east and starts round about the Dartford Tunnel,Orpington and Farnborough are also Kent,I do believe that in the 1800s Kent would sometimes come under London.Dont know if this is any help to you.The London AtoZ would help you. Good Hunting Jan.

Hi, is Clerkenwell in Holborn, Islington, and is St Pancras in these places? Are these places near Kent? Excuse my ignorance, but I'm in Australia Cheers Leeanne
