Helen, Can you get to Kew easily? I can - distance is not an issue for me, but time is usually the problem! However, I am hoping to go in early January and would be pleased to get your copies for you if you wish. Mail me privately with the reference details and your postal address and I'll see what I can do. Regs Jane |

Hi Helen Divorce was quite a rarity in those days as it was a very costly business. Most people either separated, met other partners and lived together as man and wife or remarried bigamously!! And they complain about our generation!!! Best wishes Helen |

Hi Mary I found my reference through the National Archivist site: www(.)nationalarchivist(.)com Remove the brackets though from the above link! However, this is a pay to view site and I only know of my gt gt grandfathers divorce as it was on his second marriage certificate so I was able to estimate that it was between his first and second marriage!! Good luck ! Helen |

On the subject of divorce, did many take place around the 1890's? My gt gt grandmother remarried in 1895. I assumed gt gt grandfather had died but as I'm struggling to find a death, could it be they divorced instead??? |

Helen, Yes you can get copies and they can be a full of interesting info......mine kept me busy for hours !! I had a copy for an ancester who husband divorced her ( late 1800's ) and it made fascinating reading. Why they divorced, who else was involved.....what each party did to try to solve the situation...etc....It was also full of dates and address. in mine the other man was ordered to pay her husband a fine !!! I realise every divorce if different but in my case well worth the money. Esta |
