I have a Sarah Copus on the 1871 census. Her place of birth is given as Upson Chel, Bucks. I have been unable to find such a place via my search engine and Parloc and presume it to be a mistranscription. Any ideas of what it should read? Many thanks Jackie

Jackie, the image looks like Bucks: Upton C. Chal. Not sure that helps. Any idea where other relations came from? Ian

Hi I'm glad you raised that - I'd been trying to find it because my g-g-father was there in 1881 as a "carman" - subsequently working for GWR. I've tracked it down - in spite of it not showing on Multimap! Chalvey is just north of Jn6 on the M4 and Upton is next door to the east. Both in the south of Slough, west of the centre. They are a single parish (Upton-cum-Chalvey), although two centres of habitation - and two churches! - St Laurence and St Mary Christine
