I really think this research has made me value these people who were just names before. Hey Mandy, hows the FT2005 going?

Marjorie, isn't it amazing the difference it makes when it's your own ancestors? I was very upset when I received the death certificate of my uncle - died from meningitis aged 2 - and I found Remembrance Day particularly poignant this year, having found out full details of two relatives who were lost in the wars. Hugs, Mandy :) xx

My mother`s brother died of Glioma of the Cerebellum - Ithink that`s a brain tumour -but she was told it was TB meningitis-the wee boy was blind in one eye. Rosalyn

Lucia I just did a google for "cancer of the head" and there were several sites, mainly American, for Cancer of the head and neck and the term seemed to mean an external cancer - often caused on skin exposed to the sun - ie forehead, rather than a brain tumour. nell

Yes, its dreadful to think how they must have suffered without modern drugs. Even with them its awful. Lets hope one day we will meet all these people we have spent agonies over finding!

Yesterday I received the death cert of my 2 x gfather. I was not prepared for what it said, namely, he died of cancer of the tongue and throat. I had a sleepless night last night, imagining his awful death. Just hope someone was kind enough to pour laudanum down his throat. Its stupid, but it has really upset me!

Are you sure it isn't bad writing for cancer of the heart? Head is a very vague term even for those days! nell

I think it probably did mean brain tumour. I have death certificates where it says something along the lines... 6 months certified, and this means how long it is since the condition the person died of was first diagnosed, so she probably WAS ill for 5 years. Kath. x

My 3xgreat grandmother died in 1875 of "Cancer of the Head". Would this mean a brain tumour? and Was this a common cause of death? There is also "5 years" written next to the cause of death. Does this mean how long she was suffering from the disease? Thank you for your help, Lucia
