Lost Cousins???

Just in case anyone didn't notice (as I didn't right at the beginning), it speeds things up considerably when you have entered the first person from a household to use the 'add similar relative' (or whatever it actually says) as it enters all the previous bits except name age and what relative thay are.

It can be quite time-consuming. I have a total of 166 names from the 1881, which includes any cousins that I know about. Luckily I had already compiled an Excel spreadsheet with all the details, including the folio & page numbers etc. Nevertheless, it still took me about 4 hours to enter all the details on Lostcousins. Haven't had a match yet either! Hoping that if everyone enters their names, the database will reach that critical mass when connections start to happen! Don't forget that you have to enter the details EXACTLY as they are on the LDS (mistranscriptions & all!). Richard

I have just started adding my details to lost cousins, I have a few brick walls and anything to help chip them away will be worth it At the moment all it costs is time...(still trying to reach that 50 though)

I think you add as many people as you can from 1881 who are either direct ancestors, blood relatives or related by marriage. I have about 60 on there at the moment, there's no way I could know what has happened to even half of these lines, hopefully if everyone enters as many as they can then it will start to make matches. You should add any cousins that you know of from 1881 too as their descendants will also be your cousins only slightly more distant.

I joined this site a couple of weeks ago. Basically, you enter your KNOWN relatives from the 1881 census. (There are plans to include 1891 at a later date). You have to enter the folio number etc and the idea is that it will connect you, ON BOARD, to others who have made the same entries. Personally, although I have made my entries, I dont think its going to be much use to me because I know whats happened to all the people Ive found on the 1881 - however, there's always the chance that something I don't know about will crop up! At the moment it is free, so you have nothing to lose and the more people who make entries, the more likely it is that people will match up. I cant remember the exact address, but if you put lostcousins into your search bar, it should come up. In the meantime I will look up the proper address, just in case you cant find it. Cheers Marjorie
