Well done you guys on the Grand Hotel query, you never fail to amaze me. Here is another hotel one - but harder cos I dont know the name! My elderly uncle 81, says his grandmother owned a hotel in the East End where East India Road and West India Road met. Apparently a lot of the guests were waiting to go on ships. We are probably talking 1850. Anyone hazard a guess where I might find the name of this hotel and any other info on it for him please? The grans name was Miss Shephard-Hodges and she married a Mr Flewit.

Hi Heather Our local library has maps of the local area, don't know if you are in London but if you are able to get to the library these maps are very detailed and you may be able to find the hotel name from them Good Luck in your search Chris

Thanks guys - Christine The Londer? is that the right name? I shall google for it. Or is it the Londoner? Be great if I can tell uncle something about it.

Hi, I just googled The Londoner and came up with a great photo of the hotel, originally known as The Eastern. Many thanks guys, you never let me down! Actually there are some brilliant postcard sites for east end views if anyone wants to add stuff to their files.
