two of my relatives are cambermaids in 1891 at the Grand Hotel, London. It looks like it was a big place because it had several pages on the census just for staff in the hotel. Does anyone know if it still exists or where I can find any info on its history? thanks

Jayne Do you have a street name at all? As you can imagine LOndon is full of hotels and plenty of them used to be called something else. It may help if you know the street. Zoe

I've checked the institution page on ancestry for 1891 and it says its on Trafalgar Square - if I've got the right place that is

I've done a google and its on the South side of the square. I've managed to find a a picture of the area c1900 and the hotel is there and looks to be on the corner that leads down from the Strand (and Charing Cross Station) put it on a webpage so you can have a look http://uk.geocities(.)com/zoelinkson/grand.html

I've just looked up the details again on the 1891 census. It states The Grand Hotel, St Martin in Fields, London. (Reg district Strand) Would this be where trafalgar square is? (Am a midlander know very little about London!!) Jayne
