Try googling Seeling.There are lots on there although mainly from America.You are right about the German connection

thanks Sam and Helen for reply.My GGF was ''allegedly''34 in 1874 when he sailed to NZ on the Woodlark.His name was William Seeling.There is a WS in the 1771 but wrong age by a mile!He in turn is not on 1881!I reckon he might have been German as I have found lots of "Seelings'' who are described as German born but UK citizens!!!
