Hi, A bit of advice please. I have my great grandmother with her family in the 1891 census. Her fathers name is John Root and it says he was born in Little Dunmow, Essex and is age 39. I have John again with his family in 1901 age 50. I searched for his birth on 1837 and have found a John Root born 1st quarter 1851 in Dunmow and a John Root born 3rd quarter 1851 in Dunmow. I will just have to order both certificates wont I? Dont even know why im asking that. What info will I get from a birth certificate of that time?

I think you will have to order both certificates to be honest as they are too close together xxx

Hi there, I think the first thing you must do is search for his marriage certificate, that will tell you the name of his father, so that when ordering a birth certificate you can state that you only want the one that has on it the correct fathers name. That way you will only have to pay for one. You get much more information from a marriage certificate Regards. Mary

O.k. So if I get my great grandmas birth certificate I should be able to get his wifes name and search for marriage reference. Ive already ordered ggrandmas marriage certificate but that will only have her father, is that right? Lots of thanks Mary. Kerry x

Hi there, If you want to find John Roots birth certificate, you will have to find is marriage certificate first so that you know the name of his father, then you can state his fathers name on the application for his birth certificate. Hope this is clearer. Mary

Have you identified the right John in 1881 online on LDS site? One of them is married, the other is living with his mother Harriet. Maybe this will help you search.
