I am trying to trace the history of Liston/Lyston Mill in Essex. I have info. on the families living there during the 1861/71 and 81 census'. Have been unable to find it on the 1901 census. Would love some more info. on this house. Can anyone help?? Ruth xxx

Ruth I can only suggest that you contact the relevant local records office - perhaps in 1901 it was called something else. nell

Ruth It must have still been there in 1905 - I found this little snippet with Google: http://www.foxearth.org.uk/1904-1910HaverhillEcho.html 1904-1910HaverhillEcho.html newspaper archive: October 21st 1905 There was an inquest at Place Farm, Liston, into the circumstances surrounding the the death George Howard aged 55 years a coachman of Long Melford. He had suffered from an illness for about a fortnight and was last seen by witnesses at 6-45 am on the 10th, the body was found in the flood gate hole at Liston Mill last week. A curious coincidence was that 23 years exactly ago deceased tried to commit suicide by drowning, he was coachman to Mr William Ward of Melford. P.C.Rogers of Foxearth said there were no marks of violence on the body or clothes disarranged. Found drowned.

And another one... January 24th 1914 The body of a Melford woman, Rose Anna Molten, was found in the Mill pool at Liston Mill. The body was conveyed to Liston Place farm. 1914-1916HaverhillEcho.html newspaper archive Both the above were from the website of The Foxearth and District Local History Society: http://www.foxearth.org.uk/index.html
