Has anyone come across this place? My ggrandmothers sister was in there for the 1901 census. Does anyone know if 'convalescent' was a euphamism for insane or pregnant, or was the poor girl just unwell? There are a lot of housemaids, parlourmaids, general servants in there. Thanks Teresa :) |

Hi, thanks. I have done that, I've been through first couple of pages, but couldn't find anything other than a mention of it existing, or who the matron was, particularly specific to the 1901 period. I will come back to it, just wondered if anyone else had a rellie their with mine, that might have already got more info. Teresa |

There was a convalscent Home at Carshalton which I believe is in Surrey. I went there as a child in the 1930's with my family to visit a cousin who had been ill. Even in the late 50's people were sent from hospitals to convalescent homes for recuperation. |
