I have no living relatives to ask so I am finding it tough going. I have my late mothers birth cert, (no details other than her name??) When I search for her on 1837 the only birth for her name has the forename spelt differently than on the cert. Could this be a genuine error? Thanks for any help james

Sounds like you have the short version of her birth certificate. You could always ask the record office which issued it to send you a complete version - that way you wouldn't risk sending for the wrong one from 1837online (although discrepancies in spelling are common). You can probably phone the appropriate record office and ask how much it would cost. Some of them have online search and ordering. Which area are you looking for?
