Wonder if anyone can help with two queries: All I know of my GGGGParents in the 1800s is that the father was called John Button and the Mother was Ann. On the LDS site I found a marriage between a John Button and Ann Dunwill for 20th January 1805, Saint Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire which I think mite or mite not be them. One of the children (Joseph, born 1828/1829, Leeds, Yorkshire) first appears on the 1871 census living in Lambeth. At that time he was 42, married with children of his own, this information I know to be 100% correct. BUT, I have found 6 other 'button' children on the LDS site christened at St Peters in Leeds between 1807 and 1823 which belong to a John Button and Ann. At the moment I only have 'online' details of Joseph's christening in 1829 at St Peters's Leeds and not his birth-certificate so I do not have Ann's maiden name. Is there anyway of confirming that the children I found on LDS are the one's I should be looking at? Also, is the marriage between John and Ann the one I am looking for? Any thoughts appreciated! About a month ago I contacted Leeds to ask them how I could obtain details of Joseph's christening but am still awaiting a reply! Many thanks for any advice!!

Hi, this is the point where you have to get yourself out from behind the computer Im afraid and start looking at parish records. If you have a definite birth date for Joseph you could look in the parish records for his baptism and you should find his father and hopefully mother's names. You can then look backwards through the records to see if any of the other children had the same parents. (I was lucky in that my GGFx3 had an unusual first name and the vicar kindly gave the maiden name of the mother). If you are a long way from Leeds, you could try seeing if a family history centre is near you and order the right records to view there. It is quite hard work but what a buzz when you confirm it!

First of all, as Joseph was born before 1837, there won't be a birth certificate. The best way to confirm if they are the same family is to find them on a census together (or at least some of them). Try asking for a census search for 1851 on the Records Office board. Good luck, Carole
