Does anyone have any details for this - where it was or where I might find the records for it? My gg grandfather was there for 1901 census. Tried to find details of address from census but it is such a long document -no luck. It just says London county luna tic asylum. In 1891 he was listed at Wandworth and Clapham Union Infirmary as a lunatic. Does anyone know where this was and if the building is still standing or where i may find records? He was a paperhanger/decorator - does anyone know if the materials that were used during those days could have been responsible for his illness? Alice

Found this by googling The building you saw is almost certainly the Wandsworth and Clapham Union Infirmary which is at the bottom of Usk Road where it joins St Johns Hill. The building is now St Johns Hospital. The Inforimary was opened in 1870 and passed through various administrations before passing to the NHS in 1948.

There was Lead in paint, this could affect the mind. There was also a lot of other thing used that we would not dream about useing to day. So there is a posabilaty that his job was the resson he was there.

It seems records relating to the Infirmary are now in the London Metropolitan Archives. nell
