I have been working through my Martin Family from 1881 to 1891. I have found 3 died, & 3 married, but I can not find the following.

Job Martin born in Bexley Heath Kent in 1873, was 8 on the 1881 census. I know Job is alive becasue he is my g grandfather & was married to Sarah Weller by 1901. Though I can't find any record of a marriage! His mother Eliza , also born in Bexley Heath was born 1833. It is possible that Eliza died, but I can't find a record of it. Thanks

Hi I know you were asking about the 1891 census and I could not find anything yet!! I looked on the 1871 census (not sure if you have already done this) and this is what I found. William Martin 46 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Head Bexley Kent Eliza Martin 38 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Wife Bexley Kent William Martin 16 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Son Bexley Kent George Martin 14 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Son Bexley Kent Frederick Martin 12 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Son Bexley Kent James Martin 9 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Son Bexley Kent Eliza Martin 7 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Daughter Bexley Kent Caroline Martin 5 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Daughter Bexley Kent Annie Martin 2 Bexley Heath, Kent, England Daughter Bexley Kent Source information: RG10/879 Registration district: Dartford Sub-registration district: Bexley ED, institution, or vessel: 6 Folio: 112 Page: 28 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 125 Using this information you could work out who would have still been alive around 1891??? Also, I notice that Eliza is the Head in 1881 so it could be possible that she remarried and her new husbands name is on the census with the rest of the family taking his name. Trish

thanks I hadn't thought about eliza remarrying. I'll check that out. With all the rest of the family dying, I was getting into a roll! Still don't know where Job is either

I just found Eliza's death in 1894, still a Martin, so she should be around in 1881.......but where !?!??

Hi Karen This is confusing!!!! have you tried under different spellings of Martin in the 1881 census?? Also, do you know which of the family from the 1871 census died? Trish

hi all, the family in 1871 is above. Job born 1873 By 1881, William father had died in 1878, George died in 1881. Later Caroline died in 1888. In 1881, it was just Eliza (mother, Frederick & Job left at home. Annie married in 1888 to Albert McCann Eliza married in 1889 to Robert Collins from Canada, & William was married with 5 kids & living in Plumstead. James was living in Liverpool in 1881 for some reason, but he has also disappeared by 1891. So where are Job & Eliza !!!! aghhhhhh

Hi Karen, I managed to find them by clicking on the 1901 census, Kent, Orpington and then selecting page 6. How odd. Still can't find them in 1891 though. Crista

was Job old enough to be in the Army???

hmmmm Job was 8 in 1881. Not sure how old they were to join the army. His sister must have married a soldier though because her 5 kids were all born in different counties , even ireland. Now there is a thought......wonder if the sister was in Ireland at this time & Mum & Job went to visit. Was that an expensive thing to do....travel to Ireland??
