Hi Karen, what exactly is the free access to ancestry that you are using? Do you mean the 2 week trial period? I do agree it is pricey.....but if you use it heaps...I guess that is what it is all about. And of course if they have the relevant places you need. Victoria

I am using the free access to Ancestry & find it good. The main problem to me is that Yorkshire is not on the 1901 or 1871 census, & that is where most of my family come from. I would not pay $200 to have access. Karen in NSW

Hi Victoria I am living in Australia a friend joined Ancestry and it cost around $200 for a year. You can visit a Family History Centre at L.D.S. chapels and they all have access to Ancestry. Go to familysearch.org to see where the closest one is to you. Maureen

Hi Tony and Peter, thanks for your replies. I guess it is like anything....depends how much you use it. As for which counties etc you want....sometimes that is a bit like having to know the answers before you ask the question! Still if one is looking up various trees and they come from England there must be some info there to be had? Guess a person can also help with other peoples enquiries.... Yes I do use the mormons site and it is important to cross check any info. Thanks Victoria

This kiwi has found it useful - but wouldn't pay that much. It depends what you are looking for.

Hi Victoria. Tony here in Victoria. Ancestry is a Individual choice, it has benefits for some, but not for all. I had a 2 week trial, and found it interesting. But i also use many other U.K links to various resouces. I guess it depends also what County you are doing your main research in. Some Counties have more info than others. I like U.K free BMD, and use it quite regulary to double check my finds. I also use the LDS site and check one against the other. So if i find a possible link to my line i check and cross-reference all three. Ancestry, Free BMD, LDS. Ancestry has links to the Census data, and this is a bonus. It's a personal choice. Some people only want to check a few Ancestors, but others are researching all lines. Direct Ancestors, and full Pedigree lines. We in Oz cant walk in to a U.K public records office and sift through all the data, so Ancestry to me is another useful link. I will be joining next year, because with the research i am doing it will benefit me. I have a few contacts with other Australian's that have puchased a membership on Ancestry with their credit cards on line. They tell me its quite safe.? As for cost's i am not 100% sure myself as yet, but maybe some one else in Oz has a better idea of $. Tony Oz

Hi , I am still deciding whether to join ancestry.com. I went into their help section.....but can't find how much it would be in Aust dollars. I am perhaps interested in their United Kingdom section which is $99 or so. Have the Australian researchers found it useful? I don't really like their set up of having to give all your credit card details etc just for a free trial period of 2 weeks. Appreciate any comments Thanks Victoria
