Mostly it is a shortened version of Elizabeth as is Lizzie, Elsie and Eliza, or Liz, but some did use it as a name in its self, but like my great aunt could be a Nell which was also short for Elizabeth and Helen, do you not think they just like to confuse us??? Pat x
