Thank-you Joan.

My marriage details show that I married a John Allan or John Chapman. This is because he took his step-father's name but was not adopted by him so therefore shows as marrying under both names. I have found this usually happens when a person may have a step-father and uses this name officially but is not normally adopted by them. If the person was adopted by step-father then only the adopted name would show in the marriage registers.

I've looked under Fiske and have found the same marriage. I think Saunders must be a previous marriage.

Hi Kylie You probably need to send for the certificate to find out what the names mean. Have you tried looking on 1837 under the two surnames you found to see if they are both there under the same information? Trish

Hi all! I've been doing some 1837 marriage searches. One particular person I was looking for was married to someone known as Fiske or Saunders (that's how it's listed). What does this mean? Has the person been married before? Therefore Fiske is the maiden name, and Saunders a former married name, or vice versa? Thanks, Kylie
