Rider9 Report 28 Nov 2004 22:17

I have been using the freeware version of Genopro for a good while now and I do like the way it displays the family tree... I always have problems printing it out (getting the pages to match up properly) but that's another story! Does anyone know - if you purchase GenoPro Gold and download it, is there any risk of losing the information already on the computer, or does it overwrite it and the only difference you notice is the absence of the 'nag' message and delay in saving the tree after amendments? I am worrying about losing my carefully compiled data! I can only see American fees for doing this too - not anything in pounds. I have tried to copy my tree to a CD but it didn't work - can't remember the error message but if there is anyone who could explain in simple terms how to do this, I would be very grateful. I am used to buring audio cds but never managed a GenoPro one! There we are - 2 queries in one post.... Thanks for any advice Tyne

Tyne....downloading the GOLD version of genopro shouldn't effect your tree ......it's just a matter of entering the Key they send you and then "registering" the program. As for directives on how to burn your tree to disk, I need to know what version of Windows you have.....if you don't have Windows XP, I need to know what type of software you're using to burn the CDs. Have you managed to create a web site like report yet? (t's an awesome format that the Genopro program creates. Judy

hi Judy - thanks for replying! No, not managed to do a report yet - is that limited to purchasers of the Gold version? I have Windows 2000 and I have Nero on the computer, which I have used to burn audio cds - I did try to put a Word file on to a CD using it, but no luck.

Tyne....no the web site type report comes with the free version. When you're ready to do that type of report, let me know.....it's quite easy, a push of a button or two. As for Nero, open the Nero program, under one of the headings at the top, when the program is opened, look for the "Wizard" option....you'll have to click on each option at the top until you find.....sorry, I haven't used Nero in a while and no longer use that particular program so step by step directions would be difficult. When you find the Wizard option, click it open.....it will prompt you through what type of file you want to burn (ie video, audio, data, etc.....data should work for you. Judy

thanks Judy - but that is exactly what I did - I chose the data option but it wouldn't burn. I shall try again! Thanks for the tip about the report thing too - I shall have a look at that and get back to you if I can't figure it out. Thanks again Tyne
