Kevin Quite definitely O'Neill can be spelt as follows: O'Neill/O'Neil/Neill/Neil/Neale/Neal/ These are the most common spellings. Be prepared for all these spellings within one family. Janet |

Yes, I would think there is a strong possibility they are the same person! It is, after all, an understandable spelling mistake. If everything else fits, I wouldnt let a missing L put you off - my lot, all called Holden, are recorded as Holdan, Holdane, Holding, Holdinge, Holdings, Houlden, Houldinge, Houldings, Howleden, Howden and so on and on - Molden, Golden, Golding - oh, how I wish I only had an extra L to contend with!! Cheers Marjorie |

posibly on a census i have a billingsley down as a billington and a tyrer as a Tuprer. it's most likley for the registar to spell it the way they thinks right (especially if the parents can't read) |

I requested a search for a Josephine Sadie O'Neil born around 1911 from the Statistics & Research agency in Belfast. They traced a Josephine O'Neill (2 L s). Could this be the same person? can O'Neil be spelt either way for the same person? or is it more likely that it is someone else. |
