I had a relative in prison during the 1960s and had no idea whether I would be able to obtain any relevant information or not. I contacted the prison service via their website, and by return received a very useful document. It tells you all about their closure rules, where records are held, prison museums etc. If anyone would like a copy, please email me with your direct email address and I will be happy to send it as an attachment.
