Deborah I'm puzzled - I thought you said it was possibly Emo as you had some certs with that on and some with the other name? nell

Nell i don't yet have the certs, i checked the births of my nan's 8 siblings in the bmd (births) some had the maiden name i was expecting some had Emo, I thought this might have meant something eg. the mother might not have been present at the registration or something else, only someone suggested that this might have been her maiden name (Emo) so it is possible that this might not have been my relation. now im getting myself confused debbie

Debbie OK. I can't think that Emo in the place where a maiden name should be can mean anything other than that that was the mother's maiden name, so 3 possibilities occur: 1. These are NOT all siblings, but children of different families who have the same surname. 2. These are siblings, who share the same father but a different mother (are the Emos jumbled up or do they all come before/after the other name?) 3. These are siblings with the same parent and the mother or whoever registered the births was confused. Perhaps the ones registered Emo were registered by another family member who thought that was the right name? Perhaps you will have to get a cert to find out - I assume that you don't know what Ms Emo's first name was, it might be quite different from the one you expected, which would hopefully prove they were two different women. You would then have to see who married the right man. Now I'm even more confused! nell

You also said, last time you asked this question that the mother had been married before though you didn't know to whom. Is there a reason for believing she hadn't previously been married to Mr Emo? It looks like she was and that she sometimes gave her maiden name and sometimes her previous married name when registering the births. Either this or the Emo entries are not your relatives but the only way you will find out for sure is to buy one of the birth certificates. Judith

I will have to search for another marraige (great) I will also get some birth certs aswell. oh, also they were in no paticular order, the youngest child was emo and some of the middle ones, but the oldest ones im not sure, it was before they recorded mmn, but i am 99% sure im looking at the right people debbie
