HI - THANKS TO ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE OFFERED ADVISE AS TO HOW TO GET RID OF THE ANNOYING POP UPS - ESPECIALLY JUDY FROM THE STATES. FELLOW MEMBERS WITH THIS PROBLEM MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN MY SOLUTION - BEARING IN MIND JUDY'S ADVICE THAT THE GREMLINS ARE ALREADY WITHIN MY PC. SO, I HAVE DECIDED TO USE MY PRODUCT RECOVERY CD-ROMS, AND PERFORM A SYSTEM RECOVERY - THIS WILL PUT MY PC BACK TO DAY ONE - FREE OF ALL POP-UPS. AFTER RECOVERY HAS BEEN EFFECTED, I WILL CONNECT TO THE INTERNET, AND IMMEDIATELY DOWNLOAD THE GOOGLE TASK BAR - THIS WILL BE DONE BEFORE I OPEN ANY OTHER WEB SITE. HOPEFULLY, I WILL GET MY GOOGLE TASK BAR UP AND RUNNING BEFORE THE GREMLINS TRY TO GET INTO MY SYSTEM. HOPE THIS WORKS - WATCH THIS SPACE! dAVID

get rid of those pop-ups as soon as possible!!!! i had this not so long back, it turned out i had spyware in my pc, then to my horror i got my phone bill in which was three hundred pounds, £100.00 of that was premium rate numbers, yes... my pc had been hijacked, bt tracked these numbers to companys in the usa which are under investigation!!!! but its not helping me much as i still have to pay this bill in full. we have now bought the latest version of norton's internet security, backed up by alo, everything seems ok, touch wood and no more pop-ups, but i'm half scared to use the net now, so please everyone dont get caught out like me!!. julie.

Although the Google toolbar will stop block pop-ups....the programs on your PC that are generating those pop-ups remains......they need to be removed. J

I use the google toolbar. It automatically blocks the pop-ups and has a handy little search button in the corner.

David....more than likely, the pop-ups you are getting is because you have spyware programs that are installed (without your consent) on your PC. Go to the thread "1 Stop Routine PC Maintenance" and see topic about downloading ADAWARE (to remove junk creating adverts on your PC) and SPYWAREBLASTER to prevent future programs from installing themselves. After you run ADAWARE (or similar program - although ADAWARE is the one I recommend), in the search results of what it finds, take note of any .exe files that the program finds before you delete the items. These .exe programs will have to be UNINSTALLED (not deleted) manually by you using your PC's ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM feature. Adaware only removes the junk adware/spyware programs generated by the offending programs on your PC......being all those pop-ups. If the programs are not removed, no matter what you do, the pop-ups will continue (and often will render your PC useless if left to accumulate.) If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to give me shout. Judy

I downloaded the Google toolbar and haven't had a single pop up since.

Search for and download PopOops (free). Or upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 if you are a Windows user. Disclaimer: If SP2 wrecks your system, don't blame me!
