Christine..There is a delay. We are all waiting for certs.Mine have been 2 weeks and still not arrived. They have had a huge response since the tv programme. If you can order from the local reg office you will find it quicker. Also they are copies of the original with original signatures not as from GRO a copy of a copy of which they can have mistakes.eg:my grans cert from GRO.has her name as Constant sex male....

Hi Christine, Mine finally arrived yesterday after 15 days. I phoned twice and spoke to 2 different people - they both said demand has increased from approx 20000 certs a month to 10000 A DAY since the 'who do you think you are' programmes started. I ordered by phone from my local (Canterbury) register office today and was told that they will send my new cert out on Monday or Tuesday at the latest - I could have collected myself, but the office is closed at the moment for building works. Staff are allowed in the vault for only one hour each day to copy certs - they hand write them so I am intrigued to see what they look like. Not that I am bothered as long as they get the info right! hope your postie brings yours soon Val

If you go to: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ and click on the "Local BMD" icon in the left-hand menu, you'll find a list of online local BMD sites. Like FreeBMD, they haven't got all their info online yet - and not all of them have online sites (Genuki has the contact info if not) - but if you find your person then all you have to do is click on their refernce (different format from GRO) and it brings up a partially completed application form. You just complete it, adding any extra info you can, the fee-cheque and an sae. The address is on the form. The service is at least as fast as GRO online. Christine
