Susan I dont know if this is going to be of any help but is it possible that James Dunkitt was born in Ireland? I have been looking around and it seems that their is a place called Dunkitt in Kilkenny near Waterford in Ireland. Also there are quite a few people from their that have the surname. I just went to Google and searched James Dunkitt and found this. Anthing is worth a try I guess. Shaz :-)

I've tried looked on 1881 , 1891, & 1901 census & cannot even find his wife on 1901 I am certain that i have the right cert as it has violet's sister Linda as a witness and every thing else regarding violet matches fathers name etc. I live in Stockton so obviously it was easy to get cert from reg office here. Church records give name as Dunkitt as does free BMD the only site which has it listed with different spelling is Tees Valley indexes. I have tried a million & 1 variations on the spelling incl Scottish ,Irish & Welsh census and any other site i can get onto and still zilch another prob is that i dont know or have any idea where he could have even been born even if he had been on a vessel Etc violet would have been somewhere surely thank you for your time to reply Sue X

On the Middlesbrough indexes Violet Hart is married to James Dunkitt.Cant find a birth on there for him in either spelling. Where did you order your cert.If it was GRO. that is a copy of a copy sent to them from the local reg office which is on the Middlesbrogh indexes. My grandmothers cert from GRO had her as Constant sex boy so yours may be wrong too.
