could you find him on the 1901 census and see what occ he has then , it may give you a clue?Or ring up the office where you got it and see if they can read it for you, their copy might be better. Kim |

Thanks for the responses. I'm afraid my scanner isn't working - too much strain since I started doing this! Anyway, the wedding took place in Glossup in 1904 and he was definitely working on the buses in Duckenfield in the 1920s. Guard is a good guess but it really does look like "H" to start and then it is a long flat squiggle. Really unhelpful or what! Louise |

Just got a marriage certificate but the writing on it is truly terrible and I cannot decipher the groom's occupation. The first word is almost definitely "Train" and the second word probably begins "Ha". The rest is undecipherable but at least 4/5 more letters and very possibly another "a" in the middle. Any ideas? He was definitely a bus conductor/inspector later in life so I am very baffled by this. Louise |
